Instructions
To ensure your outdoor sauna remains weather-tight and rot-free for years to come, the exterior wood must be treated or painted prior to outdoor use, followed by regular routine maintenance.
- Exterior Surfaces: Apply 2–3 coats of a high-quality, breathable exterior wood stain, oil-based timber treatment (such as Osmo or Remmers), or outdoor wood paint. This creates an essential shield against rain, UV fading, and wood rot.
- Interior Surfaces: Never apply exterior paint or synthetic sealants inside the sauna. Interior wood and benches should either be left raw or treated exclusively with pure paraffin oil or specialized sauna wax to preserve a natural, non-toxic heat experience.
- Maintenance Schedule: Plan to re-apply your exterior treatment every 1 to 2 years for timber oils and translucent stains, or every 3 to 5 years for opaque exterior wood paints. In areas with intense sunlight or heavy annual rainfall, inspect the exterior yearly for fading patches and top up as needed.
